Customer Call Leads to Shoplifter Arrest at Crocker Park

Crocker Park stores have a customer to thank for thwarting a shoplifting spree last week. The arrest also led to drug charges.

On 1/7/18 at approx. 4pm, Westlake Police officers were notified by an alert patron at Crocker Park of an observed shoplifting.  Upon finding the adult female it was discovered that she not only stole items from multiple stores at the shopping center but that she was also in possession of about 3 grams of suspected heroin and a loaded syringe.  Her accomplice was located in a vehicle nearby which also contained stolen merchandise.  When all was said and done, the female was charged with felony drug and theft charges while her driver was slapped with felony complicity.

Home Alarm Leads to Drug Citation

Officers responded to a residential alarm on Bur Oak Ln during the early morning hours of 1/6/18.  The house checked secure but the occupied vehicle in the driveway was out of place.  Upon speaking with the 4 adult females in the vehicle, the officers smelled marijuana and soon recovered the drug and paraphernalia from the car.  It turns out the occupants knew the child of the homeowner who was not home.  The driver of the car was cited with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  All were sent on their way.

Car Damaged by Drunk Driver

Also on 1/7, a Walter Rd resident noticed that their vehicle, undamaged when they parked it in their driveway, was no longer undamaged.  A motorist had left Walter Rd and struck it.  Investigating officers discovered the suspect vehicle nearby and cited the driver for OVI and open container.

Ice Hazards

The freezing ice caused havoc on the roadways on the morning of 1/10/18.  Westlake Police took 6 motor vehicle crash reports and handled several other spin outs just between 7am and noon.

Really Drunk!

On 01-10-2018, WPD received a call of a vehicle driving on Center Ridge Rd with two flat tires. Officers located and stopped the vehicle, and after investigation, arrested the driver for OVI.  The adult male tested over 3 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Improper Firearm

A traffic stop on the evening of 1/11/17 resulted in the arrest of the 69 year old driver not only for OVI and a traffic offense, but also for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.  The male, who had a loaded .380 semi-automatic pistol in his car, tested .175 BAC.
