Maria’s Field of Hope has bloomed early this year!
Ed and Megan McNamara were on hand at the field last Sunday morning, welcoming visitors and placing placards to remember children who have been lost to cancer.
“By next weekend, this place will be in full bloom. It will be a month of awesomeness,” said Ed on Sunday morning as TV news crews were already arriving.
The field was first planted in 2014 to focus attention on juvenile glioma cancer, which claimed the life of the McNamara’s daughter, Maria, in 2007. She was just 7 years old.
“She chose to pray for all children suffering from cancer and their families,” said the McNamaras about their daughter’s unimaginable fight against cancer.
“She prayed that the doctors would find a way to help them. She is our hero and her fight became our inspiration. Her prayers became our mission.”
The Prayers from Maria Foundation has existed ever since to help find a cure for childhood glioma cancer.
Nothing, however, has ever captured the imagination of the community like the Field of Hope. Each year, thousands – even daily – arrive to tour the gardens as they come alive with blooms.
This may be the last year the Field of Hope at its present location. “Building in the area is creeping in and seeing the trucks roll into the field is a little painful,” reported the Prayers from Maria website last spring. Since then, construction adjacent to the blooms has already begun. “The field will continue to be there again this year but it will be our last year at this location. The field will continue to be as special as it always has been. Nothing can change the spirit of a field that has a higher calling.”
“It has been great of the Jacobs Group to let us use the land, but they didn’t give us the land,” said McNamara on Sunday. Is it possible that there is an angel out there with the funds to invest in this property and dedicate it to the priceless message of hope? Call Prayers from Maria if you are!
In the meantime, get to the fields! “God works in His time and it looks like Maria’s Field of Hope is ready to bloom….a month early!” said the Foundation last Sunday.
“The prime weather has been very favorable to our blooms and they have moved along quicker than expected! We are excited and preparing ourselves for a beautiful blooming season! Come down to Maria’s Shop at the field opening Saturday morning, then daily from 10 am – 8 pm!”
