Westlake Police: What “Two Glasses of Wine” Can Do!

On 8/16 Westlake Police received a report of a reckless operating vehicle on Crocker at Center Ridge. Officers could not catch up with the SUV before it struck another vehicle at Crocker and Union Sts. The driver in the vehicle that was struck was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the striking SUV, after explaining that she was headed home to Mentor from the city of Solon, admitted to drinking “two glasses of wine.” The 59yo from Mentor was field tested and arrested for OVI and other traffic offenses. She submitted to a breath test and was found to be almost 2 ½ times the legal limit.

Craig’s List Scam

WPD received reports of 2 Craigs List scams during the week. In the first, on 8/16 a Westlake resident reported that she had located tickets to an exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art on the sales site. She corresponded with the “seller” who used aggressive sales tactics to make the buyer fear that they would lose the tickets if the money was not transferred immediately. After the buyer paid, the seller signed off and did not deliver the tickets. Officers are following up with the victim’s bank to obtain more information. In the second report, on 8/16/18 a complainant said that he went to look at a house in Westlake that was advertised for rent on Craigslist. It turns out that it was a scam and the house had not been advertised by the owner. The victim was out an undisclosed amount of money.
