Westlake Homecoming 2018

A Night to Remember…Homecoming is a special time made even more memorable in Westlake last weekend when the Class of 1968 Queen Claire Scott and King Lindy Gorden crowned this year’s royalty Queen Eliza Steinman and King Nick Schwochow.

The Westlake High School Homecoming Weekend kicked off last Thursday with the annual Hall of Fame Induction Banquet held at Wagner’s. The night was filled with great memories and great stories.

2018 Inductees: Distinguished Alumni-Steve Richetti ’75, Steve had a wealth of political experience including serving as Chief of Staff for Vice President Joe Biden.

Athletic Hall of Fame-Heather Breeden Hauk, ’90-Almost 29 years to the day, Heather won the OHSAA Girls Golf Title. She went on to play at James Madison University and is now a PGA professional and most recently coached her sons golf team!

Honorary Hall of Fame-Coach Norm Irwin-A teacher and coach at Westlake, Norm won 6 SWC Championships in Boys Basketball as head coach among many other accomplishments.

Honorary Hall of Fame-Joe Schofield-Joe, a teacher and coach at Westlake, was known for his ability to collaborate with all different departments and intertwine them with each other. He was a beloved teacher and coach.

Honorary Hall of Fame-Mary Lou Glass Paiko. Mary Lou was a teacher and coach at WHS and was a trailblazer for girls and girls sports. She was always pushing for acceptance and equality for girls sports and was a tremendous teacher and mentor to many young girls during her time at WHS. She passed away in 2008 and was represented by her husband Walt.

Athletic Hall of Fame-The 1945 Football team and the 1945-46 Basketball team. The teams were both outstanding representations of Westlake High School advancing far into the state playoffs.
