A special anniversary celebration took place last Saturday with a community open house that invited guests to tour this excellent resource for activities and fitness.

“It is family oriented and everyone can find something to do here,” said Mayor Dennis Clough.

“It’s truly a gem for the City of Westlake. I tend to say it’s one of the greatest things Westlake has been able to put in place. It’s not only a Rec Center, it’s a park – and so many segments of the City of Westlake utilize it. It is the the greatest accomplishment in my term as mayor.”

Funded by a voter-approved 1/8th of one percent income tax ballot issue when it was planned, the Westlake Recreation Center has grown to serve tens of thousands of residents and members.

Last year, the Rec Center recorded 592,700 visits. Silver Sneakers visits (for seniors) numbered 81,405 and the Rec Center offers 743 different programs that attracted almost 8,500 participants.
