New Low: Phone Scammers Now Threaten to Kill Victims

A new low has been achieved by telephone scammers/extortionists who called Westlake residents recently and threatened to kill victims if they did not send substantial amounts of money. Here is the release from Westlake Police:

On Sunday 12/2/18, 3 separate Westlake residents reported receiving scam calls which became threatening.  Two of the residents heard the messages on their voice mails while the third actually spoke to a foreign sounding person on the phone.  In all three calls the perpetrator(s) threatened to kill the victim if they did not call a certain number and send $10,000. One of the voice mails told the citizen that they were watching their house and warned not to call the police.  Luckily, none of the possible victims fell for the threatening scams. All were going to report the attempts to the Ohio Attorney General Scam Line. Officers are running extra patrols around the citizen’s neighborhoods just in case.
