Police: Up and (Almost) Over

On 12/4/18 at approx. 9pm a Bay Village resident reported that a vehicle was sitting on the railroad tracks at the north end of Canterbury Rd. Officers responded and discovered that the operator, who had been driving north bound on Canterbury, neglected to stop at the dead end, struck the guardrail, went airborne over a drop off and then landed on the train tracks. Norfolk Southern was contacted to stop train traffic in the area. The operator, a 59yo from Westlake, had to be assisted while walking because he was so unsteady. When asked how much he had to drink, the suspect slurred “I had enough to get inebriated.” The male was transported to the hospital and cited with OVI as well as failure to control.

Prowler

On 12/13/18 at approx. 3:49AM a resident called to report that a male, dressed all in black, was trying car doors in the area of Bradley Rd. He ran from the scene before officers arrived. A short time later, a male matching the original description was located walking in the area. The male changed his story several times indicating that he was walking from North Ridgeville to his current residence, the Super 8 Motel. He also said he was coming from an unknown wedding chapel but did not have a reasonable explanation why he was out at almost 4am. Officers found that the male had an active warrant from Bratenahl PD and was also in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The 30yo from Richmond Hts was arrested for the drug charges and transported to jail.

Westlake Suspects ID’d in Fairview Park Thefts

On 12-9 Fairview Park Police were called to a Lorain Rd apartment complex on a report by a resident that her vehicle had its window smashed out in the underground garage of the complex and a wallet was taken. While checking the area, six other cars were found to also have had their windows broken and the cars rummaged through. Three other unlocked cars were also found to have been entered. The complex work room was also broken into and a large toolbox taken. An evidence technician processed the scenes. Review of video from the garage’s cameras showed that two males were responsible, and appear to be the same suspects from entry to the Fairview Village Apt garage on November 25. Warrants had already been obtained for one of the males, who had been identified, and a tentative ID was made on the other. Both suspects were involved in a theft attempt, chase, and subsequent injury accident in Westlake on December 11 and were taken into custody with Westlake PD.
