The Avon High wrestling team showed last week that 2019 just might be the year for the Eagles to ascend to Southwestern Conference prominence.
The Eagles hosted league power Olmsted Falls last Thursday night and topped the defending SWC champs 50-18 in a key dual meet.
Avon, now 3-0 in the league, jumped out to a big lead by winning four of the first five bouts. Pins by Cael Saxton at 113 and Cade Robertson at 132 set the stage. Falls’ Nathan Urry and Connor Atkins then won back-to-back matches to make it 21-12, but Avon answered with three more wins to take control. A major decision by Tommy Sear was followed by pins from Luke Masisak and Aaron Endrizal. At 195, a key win was turned in by Jordan Greer, who beat two-time district qualifier Justin Jaeckin.
