The West Shore Aquarelle Watercolor Society came to The Normandy Senior Living’s new Lakeside Assisted Living Apartments the afternoon of Jan. 9 for a memorable display of original art within the welcoming entrance of the elegant new addition to the Normandy campus.
The afternoon was highlighted by a Meet and Greet with the area artists who shared their talents and spoke about their works.
The artists, including former Westlake Planning Director Robert Parry, talked briefly about their efforts and shared insights into the art of watercolor. “Most people don’t know this, but the white areas on a watercolor work are simply the surface of the paper used for the painting. Where you see white, there is no paint,” reported Parry, who guided the City of Westlake through the development stages of Crocker Park, ensuring its high standards of design.

The Aquarelle Society show consists of multiple painting created by the 13 or so paintings by 13 members of the Society. Members of the Society include Linda Borton, Phyllis Firalio, Barbara Hall, Thomas Hemsath, Howard Hoehn, Suzanne Kizzen, Robert Parry, Barbara Swasey, Jenne Vetrone, Nan Wendrowski, and Kay Bees, Al Buchta, Polly Barrett, Georgene Carlton, Lucia Otto, Donna Peters, Marge Strimbu and Carol Vanarsdale.
Society members have many years of painting experience and each is an accomplished watercolorist participating in local and regional art shows and juried competitions. Paintings include floral, still-life, landscape, abstract, portrait and marine scenes.
The Aquarelle Society was organized in 1996 and today the membership consists of about 20 local watercolor artists.
