Deciding to work with a personal trainer may be one of the best decisions you can make for your health. Choosing the right one can be a challenge.
There is nothing worse than spending 6-plus months in a gym, trying your best, only to step on the scale and realize that you haven’t made any progress! Working out on your own can lead to inefficiency or, worse, injury. Maybe you just need that extra accountability in your life? Whatever it is your struggling with, a trainer can help.
No Drill Sergeants! At My Personal Trainer a client will never do more than they can handle. If they are struggling on a particular exercise, the set will end. Completing any exercise with bad form is a great way to get injured. That’s why you see a lot of these reality show contestants dropping out due to injury.
Clients receive encouragement, not disrespect. My Personal Trainer lifts clients up! They walk out of sessions feeling better than when they walked in.
Caloric restrictions make you miserable! The client feels miserable because they aren’t eating enough. They’re always hungry. At My Personal Trainer, nutrition is the most important part of seeing goals accomplished. Work in stages. We set the client up for long-term success. Our food journal sometimes only change one thing at a time. Then we focus on the next. Everything within moderation. 90% of people who lose weight in starvation programs gain that weight right back. Our nutrition plan is designed for you. Your new diet habits create a foundation for the rest of your life, not the rest of the month.
Random Workouts aren’t best: Muscle confusion is a myth. Muscles do not have brains so they can’t get confused. However, you can’t keep doing the same thing over and over. It must be progressive to be productive. Some trainers take this to the extreme and create a new workout every time. Where this gets really bad is when the trainer makes up the workout on the spot or even pulls it out of a magazine.
At My Personal Trainer: Most people don’t want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, so they shouldn’t be training like him! Most client programs are 4-6 weeks long. This is called the principle of specificity. If you want to get better at something you have to do it more. If we are working on building lower back support, we work on it for more than one session. Gaining strength is a vital component of getting lean and losing body fat. Weight lifting is different for every person and their goals. We make sure you are never doing too much or too little. We focus on slow and controlled repetitions to make it safe and effective for your needs.
Work smarter not longer: Did you know working out too often could actually plateau you faster? Overtraining can even lead to weight gain and injury. Life is about balance. It’s better to commit to a sane program that fits with your schedule and goals than to quit after one month.
At My Personal Trainer, it’s just as important to give your body time to recover. Your body actually gets stronger during the repairing process. You want to rest a muscle group for 48 hours before reworking it. We assure that you’re never over training or under training and that the intensity is safe and effective for you.
Exercise is a lifelong pursuit and it should make you happy. Find a balance and a trainer that works for you, your body and your life. We ask about any past issues with injuries or experience with exercise. We ask you about your nutrition each time we see you to help keep you accountable and on track. WE practice what WE preach. WE tell you about our expertise and how we can help you. We share past successes.
WE set proper expectations and goals based on what’s realistic. We don’t promise you the world just because you want it but we sure do enjoy watching you reach it!
