Much attention is being focused in Westlake on the new Westlake Schools PK-4 elementary school under construction on Center Ridge Road adjacent to Porter Public Library.
The school replaces long-standing Westlake facilities including Holly Lane, Hilliard, Dover and Bassett Schools.
Westlake Schools welcomed the public to walk through the shuttered buildings one last time earlier this month. In the days that followed, many old photos and reminiscences are being shared on facebook sites like, “You Know You’re From Westlake if….”
In the midst of all this attention, a central figure in much of Westlake Schools’ evolution over the years celebrated a milestone birthday.
Nicholas Lesko, founder of Lesko and Associates Architects, marked his 95th birthday this month, celebrating with family members and his devoted, loving wife, Ruth. Ruth and Nick Lesko are also celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary this year.
Nicholas, along with his brother Ed, were instrumental in the design of beloved Westlake buildings like Holly Lane and Parkside Schools. Now under different ownership, Lesko and Associates is also designing the new Westlake PK-4 building.
