Westlake Senior and Community Services Department provides assistance to hundreds of the nearly 1,300 Westlake residents who live in poverty.
“People are often surprised when I discuss poverty in Westlake,” said Lydia Gadd, Senior & Community Services Director for the City of Westlake. “In our city, those who qualify for services via the federal poverty guidelines range from families with young children to seniors who are on their own. We have already witnessed the need for some of our services increase as our elderly population continues to grow,” Gadd explained.
Last year, What’s Brewing in Westlake raised $1,800 towards the Westlake Food Pantry. In 2018 more than 260 individuals benefited from the Westlake Food Pantry. Additionally, more than 220 holiday food baskets were delivered to needy individuals and families, and 934 subsidized meals were delivered to some of Westlake’s elderly, disabled and convalescing adults through Meals on Wheels.
The second What’s Brewing in Westlake promises an evening filled with delicious fare, great conversation and the opportunity to donate to a worthy community service. Business community members looking to network for a cause can purchase tickets online at https://whats-brewing2019.eventbrite.com. Tickets are on sale now through July 12.
