Avon Holds Sept. 11 Patriot Day Ceremony

The City of Avon gathered for a solemn Patriot Day ceremony the morning of Sept. 11 at the Avon Fire Station at 36185 Detroit Road.

It was an opportunity for the community to pause and reflect on the events of 9-11-01 that so devastated the lives of many Americans and their families.

Mayor Bryan Jensen delivered a short address, reminding all of the importance of those safety personnel who sacrificed their lives that day, and those who put their lives on the line every day in service to our communities.

“To me, if you run toward gunfire, you’re a hero….if you run toward a fire, you’r a hero,” he said.

The observance included a performance of the National Anthem by the Avon High choir, the lowering of the flag to half staff, the solemn ringing of the fire bell and a bagpipe tribute.

The community then adjourned for a day of reflection and deeper appreciation for the values and freedom our country offers.
