Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen and Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka settled up on the bet they made on the big Regional Championship football game played two weeks ago between the Avon Eagles and Avon Lake Shoremen.
The showdown saw the Eagles take the win, and Avon Lake Mayor and Avon High School graduate, Greg Zilka, purchasing lunch for Avon Mayor and Avon Lake graduate, Bryan Jensen in the Avon High School cafeteria on Dec. 3. Avon went on to the state semifinals and ended the season with a sterling 13-1 record. Avon Lake ended the year at 11-2 – its only two losses coming in their two games against Avon.
Hard to believe, but going into the Regional Championship game, the teams had combined for a composite 23-1 record, separated by just one point in the season opening 13-12 decision won by Avon in the Silver Rail rivalry game!
