Patient safety is a priority at University Hospitals St. John Medical Center. A Fall Prevention initiative was launched this month with new signage throughout the hospital to elevate awareness of patients at high risk for falls.
A Fall Prevention Awareness event was designed to introduce new signage and protocols that are being implemented here at UH St. John,” said Lisa Murthy, RN, Entity Educator. Teaming with Terry Winemiller, RN, Clinical Risk/Safety Officer, the event held in the Main Entrance Lobby attracted staff from all areas of the hospitals.
“We had a great turnout,” said Murthy. “All hospital units and departments attended. Plus, pet therapy dogs and also a dog from the Search and Rescue group.”
The dogs fit perfectly with the fall prevention theme SPOT (Safety, Prevention, Observation, Teamwork). And a logo featuring a Fall Prevention Fido tied it all together. The logo was created by Mark Kaplin, RN, 3 South, who developed the artwork and signage.
