Westlake Girls Varsity Basketball Beats Olmsted Falls in Thrilling Fashion

Senior Gina Adams made a 15-foot jumper in the final second as the Lady Demons basketball team avenged their only Southwestern Conference loss by beating Olmsted Falls 38-37 on Saturday to move into a tie for first place.

The Lady Demons (14-3, 12-1 SWC) never led until Adams pulled up from the right elbow and drained her shot, triggering a wild celebration by Westlake’s players and fans. Earlier this season, Westlake lost at home by two to the Bulldogs (15-2, 12-1).

Before her clutch shot, Adams, who is committed to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, missed two short ones inside that would have put Westlake ahead. Olmsted Falls could have iced the game at the line, but Grace Simon missed a pair of free throws in the final minute.

Westlake trailed 25-18 at halftime and was down eight in the third quarter. But the Lady Demons buckled down defensively and limited the Bulldogs to just three field goals in the second half _ and no 3-pointers after Falls made three while scoring 19 in the first quarter.

Junior Emma Hall led Westlake with 9 points and Adams and senior Abby Carrington scored 8 apiece.

Allison Milligan scored 11 to lead Olmsted Falls and freshman Paige Kohler had 8.

OLMSTED FALLS (15-2, 12-1): Milligan 4-2 11, Kohler 3-0-8, Glover 1-2 4, Stevens 2-0 4, Kalich 1-0 2, Simon 1-0 2.
