Senior Night was a happy one for the Westlake High girls basketball team as the Lady Demons posted a thrilling, 52-46 win over Berea-Midpark in overtime Saturday.
Senior Abby Carrington scored the first five points of overtime as first-place Westlake avoided an upset on Senior Night with a 52-46 win in the Southwestern Conference matchup.
The Lady Demons (16-3, 14-1 SWC) led by 10 points in the third quarter but couldn’t put away the Titans. The teams went to the extra four-minute session before Carrington scored on a driving layup and dropped her critical 3.
Westlake missed five free throws in the final minutes, but Carrington and senior Stephanie Randar came up with big offensive rebounds to extend possessions and knock precious seconds off the clock. The Lady Demons outscored the Titans 9-3 in OT.
Senior Gina Adams scored 21 and Carrington 13 for Westlake, which has won nine straight and is tied with Olmsted Falls for the conference lead.
Last week, Westlake avenged an early-season loss to Falls to claim a share of first place.

It was a week to remember for the Westlake High girls basketball team. The Lady Demons avenged an early season loss to Olmsted Falls, beat Avon Lake on the road and then topped Berea-Midpark in OT on Senior Night to go to 14-1 and grab a share of the SWC lead, all in a span of 8 days.
Westlake got payback and more against Falls.
Senior Gina Adams made a 15-foot jumper in the final second as the Lady Demons avenged their only Southwestern Conference loss by beating Olmsted Falls 38-37 on Saturday to move into a tie for first place.
The Lady Demons never led until Adams pulled up from the right elbow and drained her shot, triggering a wild celebration by Westlake’s players and fans. Earlier this season, Westlake lost at home by two to the Bulldogs (15-2, 12-1).
Before her clutch shot, Adams, who is committed to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, missed two short ones inside that would have put Westlake 5ahead. Olmsted Falls could have iced the game at the line, but missed a pair of free throws in the final minute.
