Westlake Police and Fire personnel responded to a fully involved fire on Beethoven Dr. last night that called for the rescue of a developmentally disabled resident. Officers broke through the home’s back door and found the man alone and in distress in the smoke-filled structure.
Fire crews from Westlake and all neighboring communities responded to this catastrophic blaze.
Westlake Police release: ‘On February 13 at approx. 6:15PM callers reported a car fire in an attached garage at a single family residence on Beethoven Dr. Westlake Police and Fire Departments responded to find a fully involved garage fire with flames extending into the roof of the house. Westlake Police Officers, knowing that the residents of the home included a developmentally disabled 20 year old, were concerned the male was still inside. The officers broke through the rear door of the smoke filled home to find the male alone and in distress. The officers rescued the non ambulatory man by carrying him to safety. Fire crews from Westlake, Bay Village, Rocky River, North Olmsted, Fairview Park, Lakewood, Avon and North Ridgeville extinguished the fire. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
