Avon Branch Library Improvement Levy

Avon voters are being asked on March 17 to support a levy to fund a major expansion and renovation of the current 10,500 square foot library on Harvest Dr., increasing the building to 25,000 square feet. The levy will also provide for ongoing operating expenses that will allow for Sunday hours and increased community outreach services.

The levy is an upshot of a year-long community engagement, which included multiple involvements for input. The result was a recommendation to build on the existing library, increasing the space and expanding services.

City council unanimously passed a resolution to place the levy on the March ballot.

The Lorain Public Library System worked with an architect and construction professionals to incorporate public ideas.

The issue is a replacement of an existing 1.2 mill levy, and an additional .8 mill dedicated to the building expansion and renovation. The issue will generate $1.9 million per year and fund both the construction, renovation, and operation of the expanded branch library for the next twenty years. The cost to homeowners is an additional $2.77 per month per $100,000 in home value.
