Students from Troy Intermediate School in Avon Lake swept the first-ever Interschool STEM Mousetrap Car Design Challenge.
2020 STEM Mousetrap Car Design Challenge featured students from Troy Intermediate School in Avon Lake, Dover Intermediate School in Westlake, and East Intermediate in Grafton (Midview Local Schools). Because each school houses only grades 5-6, it was a natural fit for a friendly competition among students in the area.
- Winners for Grade 5: Troy Intermediate School students Ambrose Ieropoli and Eric McFadden (team/car name: Avocados).
- Winners for Grade 6: Troy Intermediate School students Kylen Elzeer and Hayden Foutz (team/car name: Dragon Fruit)
Over the past few weeks, students built their cars and each school held their own competition to crown the top four teams from each grade. The only required item to use in constructing the car was a mousetrap. The top winners from each school competed Friday (Feb. 28) in front of the entire student body at Troy Intermediate School in Avon Lake.
