The community of Avon came together in solidarity with “The Change We Seek” to make a powerful, peaceful statement Saturday afternoon.
The Mayor’s office along with the Avon Police Dept. stood with individuals who peacefully protested against those in our country who use unnecessary force against any citizen.
“We support free speech,” said the City as Mayor Bryan Jensen released a statement in conjunction with Public Safety Director Duane Steator and Police Chief Richard Bosley.
“Our nation is experiencing a national crisis of civil unrest. This unrest was brought on by the death of George Floyd.
“A cornerstone of our democracy is the right to free speech. As uncomfortable as it may be, our country believes this is a sacred right of our citizens and it must be protected….
“We support the right of free speech. We also support our community and businesses and do not condone violence of the destruction of property.
“‘The Change We Seek’ and the Avon Police Department share the same goal for Saturday and want it to serve as a catalyst for our community to promote diversity and equality of all of our citizens.”
