AUTO THEFTS/THEFTS FROM AUTO

On 7/20/20 at approx. 8:30AM a resident on Savannah Pkwy reported that his GMC truck was missing from the driveway.  It had been taken without the keys in the overnight hours.  At approx.9:49AM the same day, Rocky River PD, while responding to a reported stolen vehicle on Chippenham in their city, discovered the stolen GMC parked on the street in the area.  The vehicle was recovered and turned back over to the owner.  At approx. 11:30AM the same day, Westlake officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway on Savannah Pkwy.  The homeowner did not recognize the unoccupied vehicle.  This Ford Escape had been stolen from Louis Ave in Cleveland.  Investigators recovered evidence from all the vehicles and are following up.

Part 2

On 7/22/20 at about 11PM a citizen on Glenmore Dr reported that his Jeep was just stolen out of his driveway.  An officer observed the vehicle pull onto a nearby street but by the time the officer could catch up, the suspect had parked the SUV and fled.  A search was conducted but the male suspect was not located.  Later in the morning, at approx. 10AM on 7/23/20, a resident in the 3000 block of Dover Center reported that his 1998 Chevy Lumina was missing from the residential driveway.  This vehicle was entered into police databases as stolen.  Along with the 2 stolen vehicles, there were numerous vehicles entered and rifled through on Northglen, Glenmore, Wakefield and West Brockway.  Items taken include cell phones and cash.  It should be noted that the 2 vehicles stolen had both been left unlocked with the keys inside.  All of the entered vehicles had been left unlocked in the driveways of the residences.

***The following was sent out to citizens as a reminder: Security warning: LOCK YOUR VEHICLE AND TAKE YOUR KEYS
Over the past week or so Westlake has had numerous vehicles entered and a couple of cars stolen out of driveways. The common denominator is that they were ALL UNLOCKED. 2 vehicles that were taken had the keys inside. Please – even if you are parked at your own house, lock your vehicle, do not leave valuables inside and take your keys. Do not be a target of opportunity. Continue calling WPD if you see suspicious vehicles or persons in your neighborhood.
