A Message from Chief Leasure…. Be Part of the Solution

Kathy Leasure, Chief of Police

Like everything in this world, change is necessary to successfully navigate and evolve as an organization. I acknowledge there is pain in our community due to racism and bias. Learning about these experiences from those that were affected gives us a sense of where we are as an organization. There is no place in this world for racism, bigotry, and inequality. We should strive for solidarity.

The Bay Village Police Department promises to do all we can to challenge and change inequity that perpetuates racism and bias within our community. We will continue to enhance the training for the members of the Police Department through scenario-based training. We will enhance our trauma informed police training to include racism, perceptions, and bias. We will also continue to work on becoming certified by the Ohio Collaborative.

The Bay Village Police Department plays a major role as a change leader. It is time we all have a conversation with each other, and ourselves. If we are going to foster equality, inclusion and respect, we must have these conversations. We will not stand for racism in this community. We will not be part of the problem, but part of the solution.
