Tuesday, September 1 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Kindergarten Kick-Off Surprise Bag – Stop by the Youth Services Department starting September 1 to pick up a surprise bag filled with supplies to help celebrate the first week of Kindergarten. While supplies last.

Wednesday, September 2 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club: Online Edition – Calling all horror film fans: Join us for another creepy classic from the vault…if you dare! New members are always welcome, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Please register. Due to an abundance of caution surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Horror Film Club will meet online using the video sharing site Watch2Gether. To participate, please check the event on the library’s website as early as 6 p.m. on the day of the program. There will be a link to take you to the site. Please note: You do not need an account with Watch2Gether to participate.

Thursday, September 3 (6-6:30 p.m.) Mystery STEAM Bag Challenge – Are you up for the Mystery STEAM Bag Challenge? Pick up your Mystery Bag on or after August 22 at Westlake Porter Library. Grades 1-2. Registration begins August 22.
Monday, September 7 (11-11:30 a.m. OR 7-7:30 p.m.) Kindergarten Kick-Off Storytime (online) – Join us on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube for a Kindergarten themed storytime as we kick off the new school year! For Kindergartners!
Tuesdays, September 8 and 15 (11-11:30 a.m.) Family Storytime (Live) – Join us on ZOOM for an interactive storytime featuring books, rhymes, songs and movement. For families with children up to 2-6, siblings welcome. Registration begins one week before each session. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions on the day of the program.
Tuesday, September 8 (1-3 p.m.) Career Transition: What Motivates You? (Zoom) – Motivation is a crucial element in setting and attaining your career goals and YOU can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. To be successful in your job search or career transition you need to understand motivation and learn how to manage your motivation levels. Find out how in this program. Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive an invitation and Zoom instructions.
UPDATE: Tuesday, September 8 (7-8:45 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Discussion (Online) – Join us online to discuss Lost Roses by Martha Kelly. As a continued precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19, this book discussion will be held on Zoom. Registration required. Wednesday, September 9 (7-8 p.m.) Fall in Love with Poetry Workshop Online (Zoom) – In this virtual workshop you will participate in a series of creative writing exercises designed to wake up the poet asleep inside of you. No experience is necessary, just a desire to be open to trying new things. Please register. Monday, September 14 (7-8:30 p.m.) Maker Monday: Broadcast Yourself on Livestreams (Online) – Learn how to broadcast yourself online with Twitch, Facebook Live, YouTube Live, and more! Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions the day of the program.
Wednesday, September 16 (7-8:15 p.m.) Let’s Talk About Sex! Sexual Health Education for Adults (Zoom) – Join health educator Jen Gosnell, MPH, CHES, as she shares information about comprehensive, inclusive sexuality education. This workshop is for adults 18+ seeking information and resources regarding sexual health topics, including anatomy, puberty, STIs, reproductive justice, stigma, contraception, trauma, violence, pleasure, LGBTQIA+ and more!
