The Avon Local Schools has welcomed back its 4,500 students in a whole new way.
For the first time, the district began the new school year with an in-person and online option. We have 23 percent of our students engaging from home digitally.
For the past few months the district’s staff has been preparing our schools to welcome our students back.

Avon Early Learning Center staff members gather for a photo before students arrive on the first day of school Aug. 27. The building houses preschool and kindergarten students.

First-grader Emmy Dundr, 6, begins her first day of school with an activity at Avon East Elementary School.
As part of the new safety procedures for in-person learning, students and staff returning to our schools are wearing face coverings and adhering to social distancing guidelines. Physical distancing reminders are posted on walls and floors; directional signs are strategically placed; and hand sanitizer stations are available at entrances to the buildings. We have purchased equipment and supplies that allow for the appropriate amount of cleaning for buses, classrooms, cafeterias, restrooms, and playgrounds.
“Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff,” said Mike Laub, Avon Local Schools superintendent. “We’ve relied heavily on the guidance of Lorain County Public Health, as well as the Ohio Department of Health, the CDC and infectious disease experts when building our responsible Soaring Back to School plan. I am very appreciative of how our staff and families responded to our plan and we look forward to a great school year.”
