Avon Lake Police Ask Residents to Secure Their Vehicles Overnight

Over the past several months, the western suburbs of Cleveland have been subject to numerous vehicle break-ins and vehicle thefts. Over the past two weeks, this has filtered into Avon Lake. Several residents from the east end of our city have had vehicles entered, some with property taken. In the early morning hours of September 14th, a vehicle was stolen from a Legacy Pointe Pkwy address.

Many of the stolen vehicles from other cities have been located in Cleveland. Almost all entered vehicles were left unlocked, and almost all stolen vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside. These incidents are mostly occurring between 2:00am and 6:00am.

We ask our residents to secure their vehicles overnight. If you see suspicious people in your neighborhood during late night/early morning hours, we ask that you not confront these subjects but rather call the main ALPD line: 440-933-4567. The Avon Lake Police Department is taking steps to counter these crimes.
