Thursdays, October 1, 8 and 15 and Wednesday, October 14 (11-11:30 a.m.) Storytime (Live) – Tune in to Facebook, Twitter or YouTube and join the fun as we livestream a storytime!

Thursday, October 1 (1-7 p.m.) American Red Cross Bloodmobile

Friday, October 2 (11-11:30 a.m.) Academic Search Premiere/CRAAP Resource Share (Live) – These two databases are excellent research companions for your teen or college age student! Join us on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube!

Saturday, October 3 (9 a.m.-Noon) Shredding Day – Kick off Customer Appreciation Week by getting your documents shredded in the library’s parking lot. You may bring up to two copy boxes of loose paper. As a COVID-era safety precaution, please remain in your vehicle.

Saturday, October 3 (11-11:30 a.m.) Adapted Storytime (Live) – Join us for this ZOOM storytime designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime. Content is geared toward ages 3-7 years. Registration begins September 26. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the program.

Sunday, October 4 (2-2:30 p.m.) Fancy Nancy Tea Party (Live) – Bonjour! Don your fanciest clothes as we have fun being fancy together during this Zoom party! Ages 5-8. To participate you must pick up a fancy kit in the Youth Services Department starting September 27. Please register. An email must be provided to receive ZOOM meeting information on the day of the meeting.

Mondays, October 5, 12, 19 and 26 (All Day) Teen Craft Pick Up (Halloween Edition) – Stop by Youth Services to pick up your Halloween Craft kit while supplies last. Grades 7-12. Call if you wish to pick it up at the Drive-Up Window

Tuesday, October 6 (All Day) Kinder Club – Pick up your Kinder Club packet on or after September 29 at the Youth Services Desk! Each bag will contain 3 alphabet letter activities that will be featured weekly on our Kinder Club blog. Ages 4-6 While supplies last.

Tuesdays, October 6 and 13 (11-11:30 a.m.) and Wednesday, October 14 (6:30-7 p.m.) Family Storytime (Live) – Join us on ZOOM for an interactive storytime featuring books, rhymes, songs and movement. For families with children up to 2-6, siblings welcome. Registration begins one week before each session. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions on the day of the program.

Tuesday, October 6 (6-8 p.m.) Herbal First Aid (Live) – Join us on Zoom to learn how to assemble a first-aid kit from your pantry. Receive a healing spice guide and learn what herbs you must keep on hand and how to use them for effective results. Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions.

Tuesday, October 6 (7-8:15 p.m.) Queer Pop! Happy Hour (Live) – Join WPPL staff on Zoom for a fun discussion about the LGBTQIA-themed books, films, music, and TV shows that we’re currently indulging in, as well as new releases available at the library. Please register. You will receive an email with an invitation to the discussion.

Wednesday, October 7 (11-11:30 a.m.) Sing and Dance! (Live) – Join Miss Nancy on ZOOM for Sing and Dance! Participants must provide an email address in order to receive Zoom instructions which will be sent the day of the program. Ages 2-6.

Wednesday, October 7 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club: Online Edition – Calling all horror film fans: Join us for another creepy classic from the vault…if you dare! New members are always welcome, but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Please register. Due to an abundance of caution surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Horror Film Club will meet online using the video sharing site Watch2Gether. To participate, please check the event on the library’s website as early as 6 p.m. on the day of the program.  There will be a link to take you to the site. Please note: You do not need an account with Watch2Gether to participate.

Friday, October 9 (All Day) Got Science? Supply Pick Up – Join us on and make your own miniature geodesic dome! Got Science? kits will be available for pick up in the Youth Services Department beginning October 9. You will need a kit to participate in the program. Grades 1-2. Registration begins October 2.

Friday, October 9 (All Day) Westlake Art Reflections Supply Pick Up – If you’re eligible to enter the Reflections Art Competition, you can stop by the Youth Services Department to pick up an art kit to work on your themed piece today! While supplies last, Grades K-12. Competition deadline is November 6.

Saturday, October 10 (2-4 p.m.) Virtual Knitting 101 (Live) – Learn to knit in this online class with instructor Lynn Nilges. Participants will learn casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch and casting off. Students will need two size 8 needles and light-colored worsted weight yarn. Registration begins September 26. This class will be held in Zoom. Please provide an email address to receive instructions the morning of the program.

Sunday, October 11 (2-2:45 p.m.) Yoga with Miss Jen (Live) – Calm your body, mind, and spirit in this live ZOOM yoga class taught by Ms. Jen, certified Yoga Instructor. Recommended for children up 3rd grade. Registration begins October 4. Participants must provide an email to receive Zoom instructions.

Monday, October 12 (7-8 p.m.) 7 Ways to Look Great on Camera (Live) – Join us via Zoom as professional photographer Katie Garlock shows us how to look our best in photographs and online presentations. She will share examples and professional tips, and demonstrate proper lighting and clothing choices (tops, scarves, and jewelry). Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions.

Tuesday, October 13 (All Day) Moonlight Lantern Festival Supply Pick Up – participate in this family-friendly lantern display! Pick up lantern supplies in the Youth Services Department starting today. Return the finished lantern to the Youth Services Department by October 19.

Tuesday, October13 (11 a.m.-Noon) A Drugless Approach to Women’s Health and Breast Health (Live) – Join us on Zoom with Dr. Casen DeMaria from the Drugless Doctors as she discusses how to support your hormonal system naturally. Whatever age you are, it is never too early or too late to have a strategy to keep your body and breasts healthy naturally! Registration required. After registering you will receive an email with details on how to join the meeting.

Tuesday, October 13 (1-3 p.m.) Career Transition: Networking 101 (Via Zoom) – Applying online all day is not the answer to finding the right position. Most likely you will get your next job from someone you know who knows someone else in a position of influence. Learn tips for using your network the right way to find your “perfect” next position. Tuesday, October 13 (6-9 p.m.) Power of Vision (WEBINAR) – During this dynamic and fun pre-recorded presentation by Patti Tatro, you will have an opportunity to define, design, and experience your dream. You will learn the essential keys for tuning into your purpose. Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive instructions for watching the webinar.

Tuesday, October 13 (7-8:30 p.m.) One Community Reads Book Discussion: March: Book One by John Lewis – Join the WPPL Tuesday Evening Book Club for a discussion of the graphic novel version of the late Congressman’s memoir, including the Civil Rights movement. The discussion will include an interview with local comic book creator Abdul Rashid. Electronic copies of the book are available through Hoopla digital. Please REGISTER to receive an invitation to the discussion on Zoom. Participants without a computer, tablet or smartphone can join using a traditional phone.

Wednesdays, October 14, 21 and 28 (2-3:30 p.m.) Learn ASL Sign Language (Live) – In this beginner class, students will learn the sign language alphabet, how to meet and greet people and the basics of communicating with the deaf. This class will be conducted on Zoom, and will meet four times. Please register. Please provide an email address so Zoom instructions can be sent to you.  Ages 10 and up are welcome.

Wednesdays, October 14 and 28 (4-5 p.m.) Teen Writers Group (Live) – A bi-weekly meet-up for writers in grades 7-12. In this workshop, we’ll be prepping for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November. Please register. Participants must provide an email address to receive Zoom instructions, which will be sent the day of the program.

Thursday, October 15 (4-5 p.m.) Nonprofit Happy Hour: Anti-Racism Strategies and Allyship (Live) – Our first Nonprofit Happy Hour will feature Enlightened Solutions co-founders Bethany Studenic and Chinenye Nkemere as they present Getting to the Work: Allyship at Work and at Home. The discussion will focus on both personal and organizational allyship and how allies and advocates can do the work at home and bring it to the workplace to ignite change.
