Westlake Girls Cross Country Wins District Championship

Running on a wet and muddy course, the girls once again put in a fantastic performance en route to their 1st District Championship in over three decades (1987) as four of the scoring five earned All-District honors.

Leading the way, freshman Sarah Peer ran aggressive, coming out with the front runners and competing with them the entire race, racing extremely well against the top runners in the area before pulling away the final half mile to not only earn runner-up status, but earn the second fastest individual District time in team history.

Right behind, and packing extremely well as they have all season long, fellow freshmen Ellie Irwin and Stephanie Nivellini followed their teammate’s lead, getting out strong before settling in and then working together the entire race to back up their 1st Team All-SWC performances from a week ago with All-District honors this time around.  In doing so, both entered the team’s record books once again as Ellie and Stephanie ran the eighth and ninth fastest District times in team history.

Also coming out strong, sophomore Sydney Peer once again ran a great race, coming out with the pack before settling in to earn another top 10 finish with a great kick at the end to earn her second All-District performance in as many seasons.

Working together to solidify the scoring for the team, freshmen Ava Kontak, Avery Douglas, and sophomore Sarah Coleman all worked together through the first two-thirds of the competition, with Sarah helping to set the pace before Ava secured the scoring, and the championship, for the girls with another great performance.
