Congratulations to Luke Heberle for Being Named a National Merit® Scholarship Program Semifinalist!

Luke is one of five Westlake High School students to be recognized as semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit® Scholarship Program, an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. Only 16,000 students of the more than 1.5 million who took the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT qualifying test earn semifinalists status, putting Luke in the top 1% of students nationwide!

Luke credits his parents and collegiate aspirations with motivating him to perform well throughout high school. This latest accomplishment (earning semifinalist status) is one of many for Luke, and while he is proud of this recognition, he doesn’t qualify it among his top two high school achievements.

“The accomplishments that have meant the most to me are as follows: I am proud to be a two-year national team qualifier for my club swim team, as well as the three-year MVP and school record holder for the WHS swim team,” said Luke.

After high school, Luke is planning to attend college, possibly at the University of North Carolina or The Ohio State University, and major in economics. His long-term goals include moving to the south and working for a bank.

When he is not at school or studying, Luke enjoys swimming, hike and hanging out with his friends.

Congratulations, Luke! All of us at Westlake City School District commend Luke on this great achievement and hope he fulfills his southern banking dreams!
