WHS Modern Egg Drop Contest

The first ever Westlake High School Technology & Engineering Department Modern Egg Drop contest was held on Friday, Oct.16, 2020, in the high school rotunda.

The objective of the Modern Egg Drop Contest was to design a 3D-printed contraption capable of protecting an egg dropped from two different heights – 6 feet in the first round and 14 feet in the second round.

There were more than 20 entries that were represented by the students in the Technical Drawing & Design level 2, 3 Honors and 4 Honors classes. There were four entries that made it to the second round, including the “Heartbreaker” designed by Taki Psaropoulos, the “Scrambler” designed by Michael Stenger, the “Twisty” designed by Nandor Leszko and the “Megatron” designed by Madison Shami.

While none of the four entries survived the 14-foot drop, a tiebreaker was used to determine the final winner. The tiebreaker was a repeat of the six-foot drop, and the only design to survive was from Taki Psaropoulos, who was declared the winner.
