The Avon High football team advanced to a fourth-straight state final four with the Eagles 20-17 win over Avon Lake in the Div. II Regional Championship game held at Avon’s Joe Firment Stadium last Friday night.
The heart-stopping game was decided on a 30-yard field goal by Avon’s junior kicker Nathaniel Vakos as time expired.
The closely-fought contest saw Avon rise to 10-0 this season while Avon Lake ends with an excellent 8-2 mark – both losses coming to Avon.
This Friday, Avon plays Akron Hoban at Parma’s Byers Field in a state semifinals match. It is the fourth straight trip to the state final four for the Eagles. It is also the fifth consecutive year for a Southwestern Conference title for the Avon team.
