It is with great sadness that we inform you that Gary Izo, former Councilman for Ward 3 (01-01-2020 through 09-04-2020) passed away this morning following a sudden debilitating illness. Gary chaired the Sewer Committee, and was assigned to the Economic Development Committee, Natural Resources, Environmental & Public Media Committee, and Walker Road Ad Hoc Committee. Prior to that he served on the Zoning Board of Appeals from 3/28/2018 until he resigned effective 12/31/19 to accept the elected position of Ward 3 Councilman.
Gary was also an active member of the 2019 Comprehensive Land Use Plan’s Strategic Team and was an active participate in the 2020 Land Use Implementation Planning Team until his illness forced him to step down from Council in September.
Gary’s love for the City of Avon Lake showed in his enthusiastic participation. He was a great advocate for residents of not only Ward 3 but the entire City through his service on citywide committees. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Ann, and his family. We will share details about arrangements as they become available. Rest in peace, Gary, until we meet again.
