Avon Lake Students Say ‘Thank You’ to Staff

MTSA breakfast snacks at each building

Now in a time where each day brings endless challenges and overwhelming COVID-19 news, it’s easy to forget about those who have worked tirelessly to support and educate students. From teachers and administration on the front lines adapting to the “new normal,” to behind the scenes staff who have made it possible for students to attend school safely, Avon Lake City Schools’ students are grateful. The seamless transition into the unknown would not have been possible without the amazing staff that grace the school district.

Several Avon Lake High School students recently created the idea for a Midterm Staff Appreciation (MTSA) project that began with a single meeting that attempted to present staff with material that would enable a safe, progressive school system. As the project evolved and more people joined in, new ideas sparked inspiration for a Midterm Staff Appreciation Day throughout the school district which was held Wednesday, Dec. 9.

All seven school buildings (Eastview Elementary, Erieview Elementary, Redwood Elementary, Westview Elementary, Troy Intermediate, Learwood Middle, and Avon Lake High School), as well as the district’s Transportation Department and Board of Education office, received a host of goodies to share with staff. Items included breakfast treats supplied by the district’s PTA groups; hats and scarves with the AL logo for each staff member supplied by Board of Education members; and a link to a student-produced ‘thank you’ video to watch.

‘Thank you’ letters were also posted at each school for students to sign to show their appreciation. This gesture of appreciation was led by the students to show their gratitude to the staff working so hard during these challenging times.
