The Avon Middle School SADD Club holds to the values that students, when educated and encouraged with the right knowledge, are the best means to prevent drug and alcohol abuse among teens. The SADD Club makes the student body aware of different events such as “Kick Butts Day” and “Great American Smoke-out” – two days set aside to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences caused from smoking. Also, the Builders Club encourages the student body in making positive choices and development of a good character in being respectful, responsible, a leader, working together, giving back to the community and a good citizen.

As in years past, the combined SADD/Builders Club is sponsoring “Project Caring Tree,” a special December outreach program to collect clothing for the needy. In the school’s Commons two holiday trees have been set up, with students donating items such as gloves or mittens, scarves, hats, etc. Some donated items include winter coats, sweaters or blankets to provide a little extra warmth to area children that would otherwise go without this winter season. Donated items were placed under the trees and later placed on the trees by staff. This year these clothing items will be given to Blessing House, serving as a safety net for children of families in crisis by providing a temporary safe home for children and support for their families.
