State-of-the-Art Facility will be the Hub in Lorain County for UH Seidman Cancer Center
University Hospitals announced today that the facility currently under construction on the campus of UH Avon Health Center (near the intersection of Detroit Road and Route 83) will become the newest UH Seidman Cancer Center.
When it opens to patients in September, 2021, UH Seidman Cancer Center at UH Avon Health Center will ensure that residents of Lorain County have access to the most comprehensive and patient-centered cancer services, close to home. UH Seidman Cancer Center is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center at Case Western Reserve University, one of just 51 comprehensive cancer centers in the country.
The $31 million, 35,000 square-foot, two-floor facility will offer both radiation oncology and medical oncology. Patients who receive care there will benefit from services at the adjacent UH Avon Health Center, including diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, digital mammography and X-ray), plus laboratory services, urgent care and a medically based fitness center.
Approximately 40 caregivers will be employed at the new site.
“Our intent was to create a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, which will provide the residents of Lorain County and surrounding communities leading-edge cancer care close to home,” said Ted Teknos, MD, President of UH Seidman Cancer Center. “In addition to medical and radiation oncology services, patients will have access to a vast array of clinical trials, as well as social work, financial counseling and a myriad of other supportive services.”
Care provided at the new UH Seidman Cancer Center at UH Avon Health Center will complement services offered at the Hampson Mole Breast Health Suite at UH Elyria Medical Center and surgical oncology specialties at UH Elyria and St. John medical centers as well as UH Westlake Health Center.
UH is utilizing multiple women-owned businesses in the UH Seidman Cancer Center at UH Avon Health Center project, including: Boss Union Contracting, Nova Structural Steel, H&H Land Clearing, Yerman & Young Painting, Thermotech Insulation and Mars Electric Company.
Additionally, UH is working with the following minority-owned businesses in the project: KLE Construction, Meridian Construction Services, Safeguard Associates and Bidar Construction Company. As the project continues, UH will be finalizing contracts with other minority-owned businesses for flooring materials, landscaping, cleaning and more.
