Accused Westlake-Bay Village Hit & Run Suspect Arrested for Menacing Victims

Westlake Police report that Shyla Harris, 25, the Cleveland woman who was arrested last year for a string of hit & run incidents involving Westlake and Bay Village dog-walkers, has been charged with menacing victims, including an unborn child.

Harris had been out on bond, charged with using her vehicle to hit 4 different dog-walkers in 3 incidents last April.

Police report:

“On 4/22/21 at approx. 3:30PM a couple came to WPD to report that they were being threatened via online social media applications.  Officers soon realized that the female complainant had been a victim of a prior Attempted Murder case in April of 2020.

“At that time a suspect, identified as Shayla Harris, was arrested and charged with purposefully using her vehicle to run over 4 different pedestrians and 2 dogs in 3 separate incidents.  Now the victim believed that Harris, who was out on bond for charges of attempted murder and felonious assault, was making serious threats.

“In fact, it appeared that Harris threatened not only the female complainant but her unborn child.  Detectives investigated and discovered that other victims of the original vehicular assaults were also receiving disturbing messages.

“Probable cause was developed and warrants were received for Shayla Harris.  Detectives, with the assistance of Parma PD, arrested Harris at about 9:30PM without further incident.  Harris was charged with aggravated menacing.  She appeared in Rocky River Municipal Court and a Temporary Protection Order was issued.  Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court revoked her bond and she was remanded to the county jail.
