Life flight was needed after a Ford Explorer was involved in a rollover crash on Schwartz Road in Westlake in April 30 at 2:37 a.m.
Westlake Police report: “On 4/30/21 at about 2:37AM officers responded to a report of a roll-over MVA on Schwartz Rd between Crocker and Excalibur Rds. The one vehicle involved struck a utility pole causing electrical wires to come down in the area. The SUV then struck a tree.
“Westlake Fire had to extricate the driver from the Ford Explorer. He was eventually transported via helicopter to Metro with life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for over 12 hours while the crash was investigated and utility companies cleaned up the damage.”
Business Break-In
On 4/24/21 at approx. 3:19AM WPD received a business alarm at Madison Eye Care on Detroit Rd. Officers arrived to find that someone had broken out the front door to the business. s for a short while and left quickly with designer eye ware. Investigators did not find anyone inside or in the area. Surveillance showed that a single person with a mask broke in. Detectives are following up with evidence collected at the scene.
OVI Car Crashes
On 4/30/21 at approx. 3:35PM officers responded to a report of a private property crash at the McDonalds on Detroit just west of Columbia Rd. The 1st responders found that a male was passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the lot. The Westlake Fire Department treated the male who then was administered field sobriety tests. The 28yo Painesville resident was arrested for OVI. He submitted to a chemical test at the WPD jail where he was cited with driving under the influence of drugs and driving under suspension. He was later released to a sober party.
On 5/1/21 at about 2:10AM a citizen called WPD to report that he heard what sounded like a car crash at the dead end of Hilliard Bl at Lincoln. Officers arrived to find that a vehicle did in fact fail to negotiate the curve and drove into someone’s front yard. The 23yo Westlake resident appeared to be intoxicated but denied drinking. He simply said he was having car issues. He was field tested and arrested for OVI and fail to control. At the Westlake Jail the man tested 2 times the legal limit.
