The Avon Local Schools hosted an Eagle Field Day this morning at Joe Firment Chevrolet Stadium at the Avon Early Learning Center. More than 60 students (grades K-12) took part in friendly competitions with events ranging from ball relay races and plastic javelin throwing; to bean bag tosses and Tic Tac Toe. The event was organized after the traditional annual county-wide Special Olympics event was canceled earlier this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week the school district is also hosting a Disability Awareness Spirit Week featuring themed dress-up days and events to raise awareness.

- Tuesday, May 18 – GREEN (Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness)
- Wednesday, May 19 – SILVER (Gray) (Children with Physical and Learning Disability Awareness)
- Thursday, May 20 – PURPLE and GOLD (Eagle Field Day)
- Friday, May 21 – BLUE (Autism, Down Syndrome Awareness)
