Westlake Police report that suicide is suspected in a Westlake Rec Center incident. A man was found slumped over on a park bench near the fishing pond.
Westlake Police report:
On 6/21/21 at 7:08AM Westlake Police responded to a report about a male near the fishing pond at the Westlake Recreation Center who was slumped over on a bench. Westlake Officers and Paramedics arrived and found that the man was deceased. The scene was secured while the circumstances were investigated. A firearm and other evidence were recovered on scene. Preliminary review of surveillance video shows that the man arrived to the area alone. The complainants believed that the male might have shot himself. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will determine the final cause of death. There is no reason to believe that any other persons were involved or there is any ongoing threat to the public. The next of kin of the 54-year-old Westlake resident have been notified.
