Bay Village Community Police Academy
Thursday, September 9 – Tuesday, November 23, 2021
What is the Bay Village Community Police Academy?
The Community Police Academy is a look into the values, philosophy, and operation of the Bay Village Police Department. Designed for the residents of Bay Village, the Academy educates citizens about the ‘how’s and why’s’ of the Department, and the citizen’s role in the Community-Oriented Policing philosophy. Students are expected to share this realistic view of the Department with other citizens to improve the efficiency of law enforcement and order maintenance in their neighborhoods through shared responsibilities and resources.
The purpose of the Bay Village Police Department Community Police Academy is to provide information to the citizens who attend, so they may make informed judgments about the Bay Village Police Department, and police activity. Understanding can dispel suspicions and misconceptions, and increase police/community rapport through this educational process. The Department, in turn, becomes more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community through input from the students. This will help to establish open lines of communication and cooperation in our shared goal of achieving the best police service for the citizens of Bay Village.
What topics are covered?
A wide variety of topics are covered in the Community Police Academy. Citizens examine training and related issues. The application of the Community – Oriented Policing philosophy will be discussed. The topics will address both parts of the Department — those which are seen by the public, and those areas seldom seen. We will discuss different topics including OVI’s, Special Units (S.W.A.T. Team and Bomb Squad), Self Defense Tactics, Laws; and many more topics and issues related to Law Enforcement.
When does the Academy meet?
The Community Police Academy meets one day a week (Thursday’s) for twelve weeks. Any student who misses more than two meetings will not be able to graduate. Once the applications are closed, the selections will be made by the Academy staff, with the final approval by the Chief of Police. Annual Fire Hydrant Maintenance in Bay Village
Our annual hydrant maintenance season will begin, Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 and will be completed, weather permitting, by mid-October. Each year we test and flush out every hydrant in the city to ensure proper function, pressure, and maintenance.
Prior to September, we will post temporary signs at all the entrances to the City as a reminder. We will also notify city hall each morning of our work area for the day. Please note that hydrants are flushed from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
Since hydrant maintenance procedures can loosen some of the rust in the water mains, you may notice rusty or discolored water when we are flushing in your area. If this happens, let your cold water run for a few minutes until it is clear again. Should any rusty water end up accidentally in your laundry, the Fire Department will have a supply of rust remover packets. Call 871-1214 for more information or just stop in at the Fire Station.
