Avon Lake Homecoming: Singing in the Rain

A little rain didn’t dampen spirits at the Avon Lake Homecoming Dance.

Held outside on the Shoremen Stadium football field, students elected to hold their dance under the stars rather than restricting their fashion statements with masks required for an indoor event.

Have you ever heard of a Masked Ball like they used to have in days gone by? Masquerade balls were sometimes set as a game among the guests. The masked guests were supposedly dressed so as to be unidentifiable.

Well, this was an unmasked ball!

Trouble was, there were no stars that night. Rain showed up the afternoon of the dance and continued into the evening of Sept. 25.

But the kids embraced the elements and found that the wet weather added to the fun! It was a night to remember and a salute to the creativity and spirit of the students who were bound and determined to have a, well, ball!

The evening was captured for posterity by Avon Lake photographer Andy Fowkes. Please visit his website picsbyasf.com to view all of Andy’s great galleries.
