Avon Wins 6th Straight SWC Football Title

The Avon High football team beat Amherst 42-13 Friday night to earn a share of their sixth straight Southwest Conference title.

Now, the attention of the Eagles turns toward the playoffs. Avon has now qualified for the postseason for the 15th time in school history and for the 12th consecutive year.

“Much respect to Amherst. Their TEAM played inspired and with relentless effort. It is difficult to win in the SWC and that is why we are so proud to call ourselves the 2021 SWC CHAMPIONS. Thank you band, cheerleaders, students section and parents for your support tonight,” said Avon Coach Mike Elder.

Avon and OImsted Falls, a team that Avon defeated three weeks ago, share the SWC title with 6-1 records league records. Avon is 8-2 overall.

The Eagles have earned the number two seed in the OHSAA Division 2 Region 6 ratings. They host 4-6 Toledo St. Francis DeSales this Friday.

Avon Cheer Champs

Congrats to the Avon High cheer team! These ladies took 1st place in both traditional & game day performances at the Midview District against a field of 28 teams!! Next up, Regionals for Nationals.

Avon Wins Boys SWC Soccer Championship

The Avon boys soccer team earned the Southwestern Conference crown on Wednesday, defeating Amherst Steele 1-0, to claim their second consecutive title and third overall (2018).

The Eagles finish the conference slate of games with a record of 6-0-1. Their play has earned them the No. 2 seed in the Division 1 Northeast District Tournament where they will host the winner of Copley and Akron Firestone on October 23rd.

Avon Lake Wins SWC Cross Country Title

Avon Lake secured the 2021 Southwestern Conference Championship in boys cross country, tying Amherst Steele with 62 team points but winning the tie breaker with senior Mathew Kuban’s 29th place finish.

Congratulations to the SWC champion Shoremen! Congratulations to the Shoregals on finishing 3rd.

Amherst Steele’s sophomore Luke Bowlsby earned the individual Southwestern Conference Championship, completing the 5K race in 16:58.94, ten seconds faster than teammate Ty Perez who finished second with a time of 17:09.59.
