Bay Police: Beware Utility Bill Scam

Bay Village police report that a resident was caught up in a utility bill scam recently.

“On 11/01/2021, at 1513 hrs, a resident in the 500 block of Forestview reported she had been the victim of a scam,” report police. “The resident received a call from someone claiming to be from the Illuminating Company, and if an immediate payment was not made, the power would be shut off to her house. The resident made a payment of $225.00 via the Zell App. Shortly after this, the resident received a second call demanding another payment be made for $235.00, which she made. She became suspicious when the caller asked for a screenshot of her full bank account. The resident did not provide this and hung up. Police are investigating.”

Better Safe Than Sorry

On 11/02/2021, at 2030 hrs, a resident in the 600 block of Lindford called BVPD to report suspicious activity at a neighbor’s house. The caller reported the house was vacant, and a truck had backed into the driveway. The driver of the truck was at the back of the house and appeared to be prying open the back door. The truck left before officers arrived, but they did located and stop the vehicle on Bassett near Ashton Lane. After speaking with the driver and the homeowner, it was found the truck was owned by the soon to be renter who was there to fix up the house. The renter had stopped by to look at the house but did not have keys, so he looked through the windows. The renter was allowed on the property and there was no damage located. BVPD reminds resident to please call immediately if you see suspicious activity.


On 11/02/2021, at 2213 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Columbia Rd. near Eaton Way for a traffic violation. After speaking with the female driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the driver was arrested for OVI. The 35 yoa Twinsburg resident will face charges at RRMC.

Doorbell Dash?

On 11/02/2021, at 0133 hrs, a resident in the 500 block of Debbington reported that someone rang her doorbell and walked away. Officers responded to the area but did not locate anyone.
