Westlake Wins GLC Baseball Championship in Walk-Off Fashion, 3-2

The Westlake High baseball team won the Great Lakes Conference Championship in dramatic walk-off fashion last week, thanks to a walk-off single at the end of the game to topple the Buckeye Bucks Varsity.  The game was tied at two with Westlake batting in the bottom of the seventh when Hugh Sullivan singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Westlake pitchers struck out 11, while Joey Cash sat down seven.

Westlake opened up scoring in the second inning and  scored one run when Nick DeAngelo singled.

Westlake  evened things up at two in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sullivan singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Greyson Elyederani got the win for Westlake. The bulldog lasted one inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one.

Cash took the loss for the Buckeye Bucks Varsity. The righty lasted six and a third innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out seven.

Chris Protos started the game for Westlake. The pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over six innings, striking out ten.

Westlake tallied eight hits on the day.  Sullivan and Cael Cipollone each managed multiple hits for Westlake.  Cipollone and Sullivan each collected two hits to lead the Demons.  Westlake didn’t commit a single error in the field. Ivan Tucholski had  13 chances in the field, the most on the team.

The Demons move to 18-3 on the season and will enter OHSAA tourney play on Tuesday as they will host Max Hayes at 5 pm on Tuesday.
