University Hospitals St. John Medical Center Outreach Programs are Back

Dr. Gil Padula, UH SJMC Chief Medical Officer, addressed male health issues.

University Hospitals St. John Medical Center has always been well-known for a regular schedule of outreach programs and health talks that not only keep the community informed but also entertained.

Covid slowed their usually robust schedule. But now they are back full-swing.

A night of Men’s and Women’s Health Talks at the new Westlake Community Center kicked things off last week. Dr. Gil Padula, Chief Medical Officer, addressed a room of men on male health issues. Dr. Kelly Raj tailored remarks for females in another room filled with ladies. Both offered insight into staying healthy through the decades. They encouraged health screenings, which were available on site, and reminded guests that concerns about personal health questions should never be withheld from your physician. “They have heard it all, there is nothing to be concerned about,” said Dr. Raj.

Community Outreach Nurse Marian Buzzard RN, provided health screenings.

Dr. Padula affirmed that sentiment. “Years ago, a cancer diagnosis may have meant something untreatable. Today, cancer is almost always something that can be managed over the long term.”

Dietician Marge Robisoin, MPH, RDN, LD, addressed the combined group at dinner, offering an informative program on diet, nutrition, food group and more.

The key to all good health is prevention and early diagnosis. Hence, the importance of the heath screening UH SJMC offers in conjunction with all their events. “It is so great to be out in the community again,” says Outreach Coordinator Paul Forthofer. “We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming events.
