Mark Jayne, a three-time state champ at St. Edward High twice all-America at the University of Illinois, where he was a Big Ten champ, has been named to lead the Avon High wrestling program.
He succeeds Jeremy Johnson, who left after five seasons to take over at Aurora High.
Under Jayne, the Eagles are expected to continue the growth and success at Avon instilled by Mark Porter and Johnson. Jayne is a Lorain County native and one of the most successful wrestlers in county history. He has coached at Hawken School for three years, after moving back to the area after coaching in Illinois. He took fourth in the state as a freshman at St. Ed in 1997 before capturing three state crowns from 1998-2000. In his senior year, he recorded pins in every match from sectionals through state. He will teach at Avon Schools.
