Avon Board of Education Set to Appoint New Member

Pending Avon Local Schools Board of Education approval Feb. 15, 2023, Christine Libeg will be sworn in as a member of the school board. Libeg replaces Art Goforth who resigned in December 2022 after serving the district for 14 years.

Libeg moved to Avon in 2008 with her husband, Tom, for the ‘friendly, family-oriented community and outstanding school system.’ The couple has four children (all currently attending the Avon Local Schools). Currently, she is an instructor at Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga County Community College, teaching courses related to accounting, audit, finance, and data analytics.

The North Olmsted native holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master’s of Business Administration from Cleveland State University. Libeg is also a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) with experience in finance and accounting roles at Deloitte & Touche, The Cleveland Clinic, and Hyland Software.

“I am very excited to start serving on the Avon Local Schools Board of Education,” Libeg said. “I have been so impressed with the Avon teachers and administrators I have interacted with over the years. They truly care for our children and I am committed to doing everything I can to support them. I am looking forward to leveraging my financial background, teaching experience and passion for learning to sustain and improve the quality of education for ALL of our students.”

Libeg is active in the community, having served on board roles for various youth, volunteer and athletic organizations. She enjoys spending time in her children’s classrooms – in her “free time” you will most likely find her at the local Little League fields, hockey rinks, Girl Scout activities, or dance studios cheering on her kids.

“The Board was impressed with Christine’s involvement in the community- she has a diverse background of volunteering with a variety of organizations in the city,” said Tara Tatman, president of the Avon Local Schools Board of Education. “An important role of the Board is to ensure the district is fiscally responsible and with Christine’s background in finance, we felt that was beneficial.”

Libeg will serve out the remainder of the term which expires Dec. 31, 2023. She plans to run for election in November. The Avon Board of Education has two seats up for re-election in November.
