Matt Spellman, athletics & activities director for Bay Village City School District was named “Athletic Director of the Year” by the Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA).
“The fact that more than 80 percent of our students participate in a sport and/or an activity illustrates how dedicated Matt is to our student body,” said Supt. Scot Prebles. “Bay High has already taken four teams to state competition this year, and spring sports are just underway. I am super proud of Matt and the way he leads our coaching staff and activity advisors.”
Each year, the Executive Committee of the NEOIAAA honors various athletic administrators and other professionals who have contributed outstanding service to interscholastic athletics in Northeast Ohio. The NEOIAAA Athletic Director of the Year award “is presented to an association member who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and has made significant contributions to their students, schools and communities.”
“I am honored to be recognized by my peers,” said Spellman. “Athletics and activities are so important for students – physically, socially and emotionally. This honor is more about the many wonderful students and families that I have served along with the teachers, coaches, support staff and administrators that I have had the pleasure of working with in the Bay Schools these past 13 years. It is why I love my job and the people I come in contact with every day. ”
Spellman will be honored at the NEOIAAA Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, April 24 during the association’s annual conference.
