Alert Avon Lake Emergency Alert System

The City of Avon Lake has released a new emergency alert system called, Alert Avon Lake, to replace Code Red. Anybody that wants to receive severe weather notifications, emergency information, or general updates that affect Avon Lake can sign up for this service. The alerts can be sent to specific areas of town (hydrant flushing for example) or the whole city. People can choose how they want to receive information: texts, email, phone call, or all three.

“The advantage of this custom software is it was created just for Avon Lake, so we can expand its features to fit our city’s current and future needs,” states Barb Cagley, Director of Communications & Technology. “Another advantage is that the initial development cost and annual fee are significantly less than Code Red, saving the city money now and in the future.”

Participants will need to sign up for this service, no information was carried over from Code Red. There is a form on the city website (AvonLake.org/Alert) that can be filled out. People can also call City Hall (440-933-6141) or fill out paper forms located at the Avon Lake Public Library and City Hall. Anybody can sign up, which can be helpful for out-of-town family members who want to keep abreast of what is going on here for elderly family members.
