Meet Westlake’s Pop Tab King

Julian Smith, a 2nd grader at Westlake Elementary School, recently turned in 296 pounds (133.7 kg) of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland.

The tabs, traded in as scrap metal, help the House in feeding families and covering room costs when needed. The RMH gives parents of children with major medical conditions an affordable place to stay while their child recovers.

Julian is following in the footsteps of his parent, Kelly Zunic, Dover Intermediate School and Lee Burneson Middle School Band teacher, who has already donated over 1 million tabs and earned a spot in the “Collect-a-Million Club” at RMH. Many of the tab donations have come from the Westlake City School District schools and members of the Westlake community, but the family has also received them from many states including New York, Arizona, and even Alaska.

Thank you, Julian, for making a difference! (Courtesy Westlake Schools).
